Portfolio Requirements for the
Teaching
With Technology Certificate
"The certificate should mean that the holders can employ computer technologies in order to support their pedagogical goals and assumptions, and it should also imply that the holder of the certificate is open to the ways computer technologies may encourage them to challenge their goals and assumptions"
–Department representative, (March, 2001)
To express both vision and competencies, a TWT Certificate requires development of a Web-based portfolio that demonstrates effective use of instructional technology tools by the student. This portfolio may be integrated with the teaching assistant's broader teaching portfolio. Suggested components of a TWT portfolio follow.
See the suggested Assessment Rubric below to see how items may be scored or weighted. Click on the links in the columns to see more information on that requirement.
Suggested Assessment Rubric
This is a suggested generic rubric. You must consult with your Departmental Representative to be sure you know how your portfolio will be scored.
Scoring System
For each of the requirements below, the following scoring system is suggested.
- 0 = Requirement Missing
- 1 = Requirement present, but significantly falls below expected standards
- 2 = Requirement completed, but some improvement possible
- 3 = Requirement fully meets or exceeds expectations
Scoring Rubric
The suggested rubric is divided into three sections - writing on teaching, your examples of how you incorporated technology into your teaching and Web design of your portfolio.
The purpose of these categories is to allow the student to demonstrate awareness of different technology tools for teaching and how they can be combined effectively.
Using the Same Example
You can use the same example for more than one category. For instance, a discussion board may be an example of both electronic communication with students and pedagogical innovation.
