Mentoring is a two way relationship involving a mentor and a mentee. Each person shares responsibility in this relationship. Success cannot be achieved without effort and commitment on both sides.

A Mentor 

• Creates a rapport and shares knowledge and experience

• Helps motivate the student

• Helps the student develop academic and professional skills to become an independent learner

• Acts as a liaison and guide to other college services and support systems

• Personalizes instruction

• Provides and is responsive to student feedback

• Acts as an agent to further student research

• Refers the student to other people, places, and opportunities
