Manually Switch Encoding

If you see Roman alphabet gibberish (e.g. *a&h!!) instead of the correct script, you may need to For some Web sites, such as www.csssm.org (Chinese Simplified), you will need to manually switch from Western encoding view.

MANUALLY RESET ENCODING

1. Right click anywhere on the page.
2. Select Encoding to see the current encoding of the browser.
3. Select More to see a full range of encoding options and select one appropriate for your script/language.
4. AFTER you leave the site, you may need to switch your browser back to the original encoding.

Changing Default Font

1. Determine which encoding and fonts are needed for your script from the individual By Language pages.
2. Click the Tools (gear wheel) icon beneath the search box, then select Internet options.
3. You should see a window with a list of options. Click on the Fonts button at the bottom of the window.

4. Change the Language Script from Latin based to an appropriate script. If your encoding is not available, you may need to install a new version of Internet Explorer, but make sure you install the appropriate international options.

5. Select a Web page font and a Plain text font. A Plain text font is one in which all the characters take up the same amount of space and is associated with older computer terminals.

6. If no fonts are listed in the menus, then you need to install fonts designed for that encoding. Check the Encoding by Script page to see a list of recommended fonts by script.
7. Click OK to close the Fonts window. Click OK again to close Internet Options window.
