Teaching and Learning with Technology

A Tour of Arts and Humanities Teaching Sites

Posting Class Projects on the Web

Now that more students already know HTML and other Internet technologies, it's more feasible for classes to create project Web sites.

Examples

Kansas Character Web Projects - Students at Washburn University had the option to create Web pages on famous Kansas natives. The instructor also provided a quality set of Kansas history links and references.

Virtual Nature Trail - This New Kensington biology class constructed an informative web site on the New Kensington nature trail.

Adopt an Escargot - French students take an "escargot" (snail shell) and photograph/draw it in various locations, then write a travelogue in French.

Project Tips

  1. Make sure you provide training resources for students who need to learn Web technology. Many topics on basic Web design are available on Penn State Web Based Training.
  2. You can request that Penn State add additional Web storage space for students and course development through SODA Accounts and COLA accounts respectively, both accessible via PASS. Students can also share files through their "U Drive"/ConMan Accounts.
  3. Many Web-based projects are organized into teams.
  4. Don't forget to remind students of digital copyright law and cyber-plagriarism.
