WebQuests and Case Studies

"WebQuests" or "Internet Activities" are a type of activity in which students look at primary & secondary sources online to reflect on what they find or synthesize an analysis.

Examples

El tiempo en América del Sur / South American Weather - Student view a Spanish weather map in order to develop skills in deducing new vocabulary.

Heart of Darkness Comparative Criticism Webquest - Students explore different theories of literary criticism, then choose one to apply to Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness.

Teach Pottery Amulet Webquest - An exercise in which students view and analyze amulets from different cultures.

U.S.S. Arizona - Authentic charts, photos and documents are used with questions about assessment of damage to the U.S.S. Arizona in the Pearl Harbor attack. From the National Park Service.

ICONS International Relations Scenarios - Scenarios are designed in which students play the roles of prominent politica figures meeting in a multilateral conference. From University of Maryland.

Webquest Writing Tips

1. Check outside links periodically (at least once a semester).
2. Provide multiple links for each subtopic if possible.
3. If you're relying on external links, perform a new a search on the topic periodically.
