Identity and Access Management is pervasive and spans boundaries both within and external to the University. Changes to registration processes and expansion of digital identity life cycles are just two examples where opportunities will be created for those developing new services or securing access to existing services. Attendees will gain a new perspective on identity and access management for the institution, the scope of this effort, and what changes might impact them and provide opportunities for new services and better security and privacy.

Renee Shuey has experience in identity and access management on the national level as well as within the University. She co lead the Penn State Identity and Access Management (IAM) initiative and will continue to provide leadership in IAM as it moves to the next phase. Renee is the Co Chair of the InCommon Federation Technical Advisory Committee, Co Chair of the Net@EDU Identity Management Steering Committee, and a member of the Middleware Architect Committee for Education (MACE).

Penn State is said to be "one University, geographically dispersed." The "dispersed" part challenges that feeling of oneness, yet produces diverse and creative educational environments enabled by some very capable IT professionals and entrepreneurial campus leadership. Test your knowledge of campuses, and discover 5 things should you know to work more effectively with the "other" campuses. Hint #1: never use the terms "branch" or "location" to refer to a campus.

The first of its kind in the Big Ten, the Penn State Testing Center features innovative computer technology that enables faculty to offer e-testing to their students. The Center houses an e-testing lab that features more than 160 Windows machines, laser printers, state-of-the-art security measures to ensure academic integrity, and staff to answer students' questions about hardware and software.

Benefits of the Center for faculty include:

More variety in the types of test questions and the ability to use Flash simulations, animations, and audio and video files.

Immediate test results provide instant feedback for students and faculty.

More classroom time for instruction because students can take tests at the Center outside of scheduled course hours.

Comprehensive security system promotes academic integrity, even allowing faculty who teach online courses to offer high-stakes tests.

Test platforms include ANGEL and Test Pilot.

Assistance available for faculty to help get them started with design and offering e-tests in the Testing Center.

This video provides a quick overview of the Blogs at Penn State project. A blog, or Web log, is an online journal maintained by a person or a group of individuals with entries listed in chronological order. Many blogs are set up to allow others to comment on original entries. Entries can include text, images, audio/video, links, or embedded content from other sites. You can use a blog for personal reflection, to take notes, share pictures, or publish movies, and for any other purpose that you can imagine.

In addition to creating a traditional blog, anyone at Penn State can use the Blogs at Penn State service to create a more professional Web site or online electronic portfolio. Some instructors are using the blog software to post course-related resources and some work groups within Information Technology Services have been experimenting with using it to create their group's Web presence.

In this video, a student named Jason is reading over a draft of a paper he is writing. He is visited by a future version of himself, who recognizes part of the paper as being directly copied from another student’s project. Since Jason has not attributed those ideas to their source, he is guilty of plagiarism. To fix the problem, Jason revises his paper to make it obvious where he got the ideas.

This video is part of joint effort between the College of Communications, Information Technology Services, Schreyer Honors College, Student Affairs, and University Libraries. This video, as well as two others, were created to address intellectual property issues in a student-centered way. The videos present some realistic alternatives that will encourage students to act in a responsible manner.
