BuzzLion for Week of September 5

This week: Incidental education, flipping the classroom, finding your iPhone, ANGEL change

Let's start this week's BuzzLion with a look at early computers by Brad Kozlek, TLT programming manager. Actually, early computers is part of the subject, what he also has to share is a great example of an incidental educational resource.

"The topic at my house last night turned to early computers, so of course Babbage’s difference engine came into the conversation. I was searching for a picture, but I came up with something even better: the video below showing the machine in action and an explanation of the machine and its creator by one of docents of the Computer History Museum."

Flipping the classroom is a concept that is on the lips of a lot of people in higher education these days. Dave Stong, TLT graphic artist, has produced a video on flipping the classroom, and not only shows the video but discusses the process of creating the video.

"My last post shows that I had an idea about the animation. This new animation, though only the first 15 seconds of the script, shows transitions between elements- which the first drawing didn't really get in to. Probably more important than my view on Flipping or my video ability is the question of whether something like this adds meaning for anyone? I'm thinking that there are quite a few opportunities to add value with this technique."

Losing an iPhone is a nightmare for those living in our connected world. Alan Klein, training specialist with TLT, has a great story plus some ideas that will help you find a lost iPhone

"When is a social media tool helpful to you when you don't like to socialize? The moment you misplace/lose your iPhone. The following is a true story."

Finally, we end this week's BuzzLion with a post on the ANGEL community hub by Mary Janzen, TLT writer/editor, who alerts us to a change to manually adding a course member in ANGEL.

"I was informed by ANGEL support today that when you are manually adding a course member and using the Account Search field, while formerly, you could search either for a user ID or the name, now you can only search for the user ID."

That's all for this week's BuzzLion. Thanks for reading!
