BuzzLion for the Week of October 4
BuzzLion takes a weekly look at what Teaching and Learning with Technology staff is thinking, learning, writing, creating, and doing.
We start this BuzzLion with a post from Jeff Swain, Education Technology Services (ETS) instructional designer. Jeff posted to his excellent blog, five-4-six, about the discussion at the recent CIC Tech event about leveraging social media. Jeff weighs social media identity, talks best social media practices, and who he doesn't want following him on Twitter.
Dave Stong, graphic artist with ETS, recently visited the e-testing facility in the Pollock Building. He posted about what he found - a very busy but efficient operation that is something the University can be proud of in many ways.
Alan Klein, ITS Training Services training specialist, posts something a bit different in the Technology Training Community other than the usual helpful software tips. This week, Alan talks about the latest media PhotoShop controversy (an altered image in the media, and asks what you think.
The Wave is here. Google Wave, that is. Cole Camplese, ETS director, adds some thoughtfulness to the Google hype and raises an interesting use for this cutting-edge communication tool - Google Wave as LMS? Take a minute to read his thoughts, and offer your own!
Allan Gyorke, assistant director of ETS, and Jeff Swain recently did a presentation at the above-mentioned CIC Tech event that he is sharing this week. The presentation was on using Web 2.0 tools to facilitate open project and event planning. You can see the presentation here.
And finally, we end with TK Lee, programmer/developer with ETS, shares an interview with Brittany Spear's social media director. He then compares some of the things from the interview to social media use in the higher ed world at Penn State. He makes some interesting points, including the idea of the social network as a tool set, not a check list.
That's all for this week, thanks for reading and have a great weekend.
