BuzzLion for Week of October 18
BuzzLion takes a weekly look at what Teaching and Learning with Technology staff is thinking, learning, writing, creating, and doing.
We will kick off this week with a post from Dave Stong's excellent blog. Dave, who is a graphic artist with Education Technology Services (ETS), this week points us toward some nice finds in the new Lynda.com technology training videos that are offered to the Penn State community. These include videos on how to do online resumes, and how to market via Twitter.
Keeping with a training theme, let's take a look at a new post on the Technology Training Community. Jim Salvaggio, training specialist with ITS Training Services, gives a great step-by-step guide to changing the e-mail subject in an email in Outlook 2007. You would do this so you can use the filter for sorting.
Help! Cole Camplese, ETS director, needs a little Google help: "I read stories all the time about people moving to Google Apps with the focus on email or in K-12 environments, but what I am really interested in are stories about how people have promoted the notion of collaborative authoring across the Google Apps suite of tools (Docs, Presentations, Spreadsheets, Sites, etc) and have focused primarily on the pedagogical side of the adoption." If you think you can lend Cole a hand and tell him your story, go here.
Pat Besong, multimedia manager, does all sorts of great things in educational multimedia design. Sometimes he is kind enough to share them, and this is one of those times. Click on the link to see how Pat took gravitational wave physics data from flat text to a vibrant graphic display designed to enhance learning.
Moodle is an open-source, community-based CMS. If you haven't seen it before, Allan Gyorke, ETS assistant director, has posted a link to a demo video of Moodle on his blog this week. Allan also give his thoughts on it - what are yours?
That's all for this week's BuzzLion. Thanks for reading.
