BuzzLion for the Week of June 28
The BuzzLion is a weekly look at what Teaching and Learning with Technology staff are thinking, writing, doing, and creating.
You probably have heard a lot about how the social Internet played a significant role in the recent Iranian elections and protests. Elizabeth Pyatt, Education Technology Services (ETS) instructional designer and author of the best Unicode blog on the Internet, has found a different angle on this story. He posts in her blog about how Unicode had an important role in enabling communication during this historic event.
Storytelling is an important part of teaching. Cole Camplese, ETS director, talks about the art of storytelling in his blog this week. He mentions a master of stories, Ira Glass of the outstanding radio show This American Life, and links to a video of Ira discussing some of the challenges of creating great stories.
Lots of great things are happening with Penn State's Educational Gaming Commons. Brett Bixler, ETS lead instructional designer, outlines the latest news in gaming at Penn State. This includes a new game being developed, a series of podcasts with faculty using games at Penn State with great success, and development of a gaming library.
Finding your IP address can be a challenge. Ryan Johnson, ITS Training Services training specialist, offers a way to easily find this and other information. He posted it this week in the Technology Training Community (a site that is definitely makes for a useful bookmark).
One of the niftiest little features of the ANGEL Community Hub is the ANGEL Shorts series, which takes a look at a specific feature or function of ANGEL and tells you how to use it. Jeff Swain, ETS instructional designer, has been a busy man lately. There are not one, not two, but THREE new ANGEL Shorts to read and learn from on the ANGEL Community Hub.
Finally, we end with Adobe Connect-related stuff. Pat Besong, ETS multimedia manager, posted to the Adobe Connect Community a schedule of July Adobe Connect Open Demonstration sessions. If you want to use Connect but were not sure how to take advantage of everything this great remote meeting software has to offer, feel free to sign up for a session. And speaking of free, there is no charge for demonstrations.
That's all for this week - thanks for reading and have a great 4th of July.
